Things to do
Live music in Madison, WI: where to see a show
For a city its size, Madison books a lot of music: touring bands most nights of the week, a busy jazz and roots scene on the east side, a symphony and opera downtown, and free concerts on the Capitol lawn all summer. Every venue here was checked on its own website in November 2026, with shows on the calendar. Age rules vary by show, so check before you buy.

The big rooms

- Alliant Energy Center: mostly expos and sports, with the occasional big concert.
- Breese Stevens Field, 917 E. Mifflin St.: the historic downtown ballfield hosts big outdoor concerts in summer.
Clubs and theaters
- Majestic Theatre, 115 King St.: opened as a vaudeville house in 1906 and now a general-admission music room a block off the Capitol Square, with comedy and dance nights too.
- High Noon Saloon, 701 E. Washington Ave.: a club a few blocks east of the Square, booking indie, rock, country and roots. Most shows are 18+.
- Barrymore Theatre, 2090 Atwood Ave.: a 1929 movie house turned independent 971-seat venue for music, comedy and film. Shows are all ages unless noted.
- Atwood Music Hall, 1925 Winnebago St.: an independent east-side hall, some shows seated and some standing, with a wide mix of bookings. Most shows are 18+.
- The Bur Oak, 2262 Winnebago St.: the Atwood's small sibling room for singer-songwriters, folk, Americana and local bands. It's 21+.

At most of these, minors can attend age-restricted shows with a parent or guardian; each venue's FAQ has the details.

Free summer concerts
