The directory is a starting point

We work hard to keep listings accurate, but businesses change, and much of what you see is supplied by businesses themselves or by open data. Information is provided as is. Confirm hours, prices, licenses and anything else that matters directly with the business before you rely on it.

We don't verify licenses or credentials. A listing is not an endorsement or a guarantee of anyone's work. Editor's notes are our honest opinion, not a promise. Category guides are general information, not legal, financial, medical or other professional advice.

Dealing with businesses

Any agreement you make with a business is between you and that business. We're not a party to it and aren't responsible for the work, the price or the outcome. Messages you send through the site go to the business, which handles them on its own terms.

Managing a listing

If you claim or manage a listing, you agree that:

• You're authorized to act for the business.
• What you add is accurate, isn't misleading, and doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
• You own, or have permission to use, every photo you upload, and you give us permission to display it on MadisonWI.com and in links shared from it.
• You won't post anything unlawful, hateful, or about someone else's private life.

We may edit or remove content that breaks these rules, and remove access for anyone who misuses a listing. Your business details (name, address, phone, website, category) may stay listed after you stop managing them, because they're useful to the public; you can always ask us to correct them.

Recommendations

Recommendations must describe your own experience as a customer. You can't recommend a business you own, work for or are related to, or one that paid or offered you anything for it. We read every recommendation before it appears and may decline or remove any that don't meet these rules. Businesses can't pay to have recommendations added, hidden or reordered.

Removing listings

We remove listings for businesses that have closed, aren't real, or are shown to be misleading. Use the “Report this listing” link on any listing, or contact us, and tell us what you know.

Paid features

Listing a business and claiming it are free. We plan to offer optional paid upgrades, including featured placement limited to a few businesses per category. Paid placement will always be labeled, and it never affects editor's notes. Any paid feature will come with its own terms, shown before you buy.

Using the site fairly

Please don't scrape the site in bulk, overload it, try to get around its security, or use it to send spam. Our design, writing and guides are ours; business information belongs to the businesses and data providers it came from.

Limits of our responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, MadisonWI.com isn't liable for losses arising from your use of the site or your dealings with any business listed on it.

The legal bits

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin. We may update them; the date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site means you accept the current version. Questions? Contact us.
