About
Tyrol Basin, a few miles from Mount Horeb, is a ski and snowboard area with a terrain park, lessons, rentals, race and freeride teams, and a snow-tubing hill with two moving carpets to the top; it's part of the Indy Pass. When the snow is gone, the slopes host an 18-hole disc golf course across 40 acres, scenic chairlift rides and the Tyrol Tavern & Restaurant, and in October a haunted attraction.

Cross-country skiers have trails close to home: Madison's Elver Park, Dane County's Indian Lake County Park and Blue Mound State Park all have ski trails. The City of Madison requires a ski trail permit for skiers 16 and older, and state parks require a vehicle admission sticker. Trails are groomed only when there's enough snow.
