University Ridge grooms classic and skate cross-country ski trails on the UW's golf course when conditions allow, with conditions posted on MadNorSki. Classic skis can be rented, skiers check in with staff first, and you need University Ridge's own trail pass, since the City of Madison pass isn't accepted.

Skiing & snowboarding in Madison: good to know
For downhill skiing and snowboarding, the closest hill is Tyrol Basin, a few miles from Mount Horeb, with a terrain park, lessons, rentals and a tubing hill. Opening day depends on the weather, so check the hill's site for conditions before you go.

Cross-country skiers have trails close to home: Madison's Elver Park, Dane County's Indian Lake County Park and Blue Mound State Park all have ski trails. The City of Madison requires a ski trail permit for skiers 16 and older, and state parks require a vehicle admission sticker. Trails are groomed only when there's enough snow.
