Choosing a house sitter in the Madison area
Agree in writing on what's expected: mail, plants, pets, snow, security checks and whether the sitter stays overnight.
In winter, ask them to check that the heat is working. A failed furnace while you're away can mean frozen pipes.
Ask for references, leave emergency contacts, and decide in advance what they should do if something breaks.
