Farmers markets in Madison, WI: the Dane County Farmers' Market and more
Madison takes its farmers markets seriously. The Saturday market on the Capitol Square has run since 1972, and from spring to fall there's a neighborhood market somewhere in town almost every day of the week. The outdoor season is wrapping up now, but the market moves indoors for the winter. Here's what's on, with dates checked against each market's own site.

This winter: the indoor markets
- Wednesday market: the last one of 2026 is Wednesday, November 4, 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
- Holiday Market at Monona Terrace (1 John Nolen Drive): Saturdays November 21, December 5, 12 and 19, 2026, 7:30 a.m. to noon (until 1 p.m. on December 5). There's no market on November 28 or December 26. The on-site garage is $5, and there's metered parking by the main entrance.
- Winter Market at Garver Feed Mill (3241 Garver Green): Saturdays January 2 through April 3, 2027, 8 a.m. to noon. The free lot fills fast and is meant for shoppers with limited mobility, so expect to park nearby and walk a few minutes.
- Sun Prairie's indoor winter market runs Saturdays from November to mid-April, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Westside Community Services Building (2598 W. Main St.). The city hadn't posted 2026–27 dates yet, so check its page before you go.
The winter markets are food only: Wisconsin farm products the vendor raised or made, and no crafts. Leave pets at home (at Garver, even carried dogs aren't allowed).
The Saturday market on the Capitol Square
The Dane County Farmers' Market fills the sidewalks around the State Capitol on Saturdays from mid-April to mid-November (in 2026, April 11 to November 14), from 6:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. It has about 220 vendors over the year and calls itself the largest producer-only farmers market in the country: everything is grown, raised or made in Wisconsin by the person behind the stand, and reselling isn't allowed.
- Go early. Popular vendors sell out before closing.
- Bring cash. Every vendor takes it; some also take cards or apps.
- Leave the dog home. State food rules don't allow pets at the market. Service animals are welcome.
- Getting there: street parking around the Square is metered, and the city's garages (the State Street Capitol garage is closest from the west) are the easier bet. Madison Metro buses and dozens of BCycle stations serve the Square, and there's free bike parking.
On the Saturday of Art Fair on the Square in July, the market moves for the day; check dcfm.org that week.

Paying with FoodShare (EBT) and Double Dollars
- At the Dane County Farmers' Market, swipe your Quest card at the Info Booth (the green tent at the top of State Street on Saturdays) for market dollars. They don't expire, and unused ones can go back on your card. They can't be spent on flowers, wreaths or hot food. The Wednesday and winter markets take Quest cards too.
- Double Dollars, run by the Community Action Coalition, matches FoodShare dollar for dollar, up to $20 per market day, for fruits and vegetables (including seeds, herbs, beans, mushrooms and plant starts) during the summer season. Participating markets include the Dane County, Westside, Monroe Street, Northside, Eastside, Verona, Sun Prairie and Monona markets.
- The Westside, Monroe Street, Verona, Monona and DeForest markets also accept FoodShare at their info tents.
