Ask about the tutor's experience with your subject and age group, how sessions are structured, and how progress will be shared with you. Many tutors offer in-person and online sessions.
Ask for the hourly rate, package pricing, and cancellation policy. For in-home tutoring of minors, ask whether the tutor has had a background check.
