Choosing a towing service in Madison
If your car was towed from a private lot, Wisconsin caps the charges: $150 to remove the vehicle, plus $25 a day for outdoor storage or $35 a day for indoor storage. Limited extra charges are allowed only in specific cases, and gate fees and lien-processing fees aren't allowed. The tow company has to notify police before it tows, and the lot needs posted signs at its entrances and where you parked.

If the City of Madison towed you from a tow-away zone or for illegal parking, the city says to contact Schmidt's Towing at 608-257-0505, and to call 608-266-4170 first to confirm the amount owed. Releases are weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; arrive before 3:30 p.m.
