Choosing a roofer in Madison
Madison roofs take a beating from snow, ice dams and summer storms. If you're seeing ice dams every winter, ask a roofer to look at attic ventilation and insulation, not just the shingles.

Get at least two written estimates that list the same scope: tear-off or overlay, underlayment and ice-and-water shield, flashing, ventilation and disposal. Ask whose warranty covers what, since manufacturer and workmanship warranties are separate.
After a big storm, be cautious with contractors who knock on your door. Choose a roofer with a local address and references, confirm their insurance, and never sign over insurance proceeds before you've read the contract.
