Choosing a mover in Madison

Get at least three estimates, ideally after an in-person or video walkthrough. Ask whether each estimate is binding or non-binding, and what can change the final price, such as stairs, long carries or packing.

Ask about valuation coverage. Basic coverage is often based on weight, not value (for interstate moves it's 60 cents per pound), so expensive items may need extra protection. For moves to another state, the mover must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration; you can look up its USDOT number there.

Most campus-area leases turn over on August 15, which makes mid-August Madison's busiest moving period. If you're moving then, book early.
