Choosing a locksmith in Madison
Proposals to license locksmiths in Wisconsin haven't passed, so there's no state license to look up, and it pays to check who you're calling. Some search ads belong to call centers with generic names that send whoever is available, sometimes at a much higher price than quoted. A local shop with a real address and its own name on the truck is a safer bet.

Ask for the total price on the phone, including the trip charge, after-hours fees and labor. A legitimate locksmith will ask for proof that you live there or own the car before opening it.
After moving into a new home, rekeying the existing locks is usually cheaper than replacing them and makes sure old keys no longer work.
