About this dog park
Demetral Park's off-leash dog area at 601 N. Sixth St. is a fenced space of just over half an acre inside the 49-acre park, better for a quick play session than a long walk. Dogs need a license and a daily or annual dog permit; Madison and Dane County permits are honored at each other's dog parks.

Madison has nine fenced off-leash dog parks: Brittingham, Demetral, McCormick, North Star, Odana School, Quann, Sycamore, Walnut Grove and Warner. Dane County runs eight more, including Prairie Moraine, Badger Prairie, Capital Springs, Token Creek and Yahara Heights, and many nearby towns have their own.

Every dog needs a license from its home municipality and a dog park permit. For 2027, Madison and Dane County both charge $55 a year for Dane County residents ($96 for non-residents) or $13 a day, with reduced annual prices for seniors, people with disabilities, military and veterans. The Madison permit also works at designated locations in Dane County parks, Middleton and Sun Prairie; the county requires its own permit at county dog parks.
Bring water, pick up after your dog, and keep an eye on play. Visiting dogs need a daily permit, a license from home and current vaccinations. See our Pets in Madison guide for licensing details.
