Choosing a day spa in Madison
Facials, waxing and other skin care are aesthetics, which Wisconsin licenses through the Cosmetology Examining Board. Both the aesthetician and the spa need a license, posted in a conspicuous place, and you can check them at license.wi.gov. Massage is licensed separately: Wisconsin requires massage therapists and bodywork therapists to hold their own state license and display it where they work.

Injectables, laser treatments and other medical procedures aren't part of this category; look for a medical provider for those.
Before a first facial or peel, mention any skin conditions, prescription skin products or recent sun exposure. Ask about gratuity and cancellation policies when you book, and if you're buying a package or gift card, ask whether it expires.
