Boat & kayak rentals in Madison: good to know
With Lakes Mendota, Monona and Wingra in the city, renting a kayak, canoe or paddleboard is one of the best ways to spend a summer day in Madison. Most rentals are seasonal, so check opening dates and book ahead on weekends.

Wisconsin requires a U.S. Coast Guard-approved wearable life jacket for each person on board, including in kayaks, canoes and on paddleboards. To operate a motorboat, anyone born on or after January 1, 1989, needs a boating safety certificate; the DNR also offers a boat rental education certificate for people 16 and older renting a motorboat or personal watercraft.
