Choosing a barber in Madison
Barbers in Wisconsin are licensed by the Department of Safety and Professional Services, and each barbershop needs its own establishment license. Barbers have to post their license in a conspicuous place where they work, and you can check it with the state's License Lookup at license.wi.gov. Licensed cosmetologists are allowed to barber too, so some salons offer the same services.

Many shops take walk-ins, but popular barbers book out days ahead, so check whether the shop takes appointments online. Ask what the price includes (hot towel, beard line-up, neck shave) and whether there's a rate for kids or seniors.
