Choosing an auto repair shop in Madison
Under Wisconsin's auto repair rules, for jobs likely to cost more than $50 a shop must offer you an estimate (or let you set a dollar limit) before starting, and it needs your permission before going over that amount. Ask for your replaced parts back if you want to see them.

Find a shop before you need one. A routine oil change or inspection is a low-stakes way to see how a shop communicates, explains problems and prices work.
Ask whether they specialize in your make, what warranty they offer on parts and labor, and whether they use original or aftermarket parts. Get winter tires and a battery check done before the first hard freeze.
