Details: ACCOUNTING SERVICES MANAGER Cygnus Business Media is an internationally-recognized business-to-business media company.  We are recruiting for an Accounting Services Manager.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manage the day to day operations of accounts payable, accounts receivable and collection personnel.  Complete all hiring, performance reviews and performance management issues.  Responsible for development and completion of departmental goals, including identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. Lead activities for a team of Accounts Receivable Credit Analysts to ensure revenue is appropriately posted, billed and collected.  Lead activities for the Accounts payable team. Responsible for the development and enforcement of company policies and procedures and internal controls related to assigned areas of responsibility.  Work with company personnel to resolve accounts payable and accounts receivable issues. Promote accounting as one part of a business that works with other departments to achieve the overall success of the company. Evaluate new technologies or new techniques which may reduce costs or improve quality.  Complete periodic RFP’s on current and potential preferred vendors. Act as program administrator for several corporate programs.  Monitor the programs and consult with vendors on problems and issues. Develop, maintain and review reports on Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable aging as well as other AR and AP metrics. Review contracts for compliance, costs, and expirations as related to scheduled payments and other miscellaneous projects. Analysis and interpret various financial information for trends and potential problems. Be an active participant in the order entry task force, providing accounting feedback and offering suggestions on process efficiencies. Work with external auditors on an ongoing basis.    Special projects and additional duties as required.   MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: Assure that the duties, responsibilities, and authority of direct reports are clearly defined, effective, and communicated. Assure that staff training and development needs are identified and programs initiated. Assure that qualified personnel are selected and that orientation and on-the-job training programs are conducted and effective.  Assist in the development of an adequate plan for backup and succession of accounting staff.  Assure that staff is adequately cross-trained to handle various accounting functions. Monitor performance of direct reports.  Provide prompt and objective coaching and counseling.  Review direct reports and approve performance appraisals prepared by direct reports. Assure that positive employee relations are maintained.  Conduct employee discussion sessions at regular intervals.  Ensure that the company’s management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced.  Act within scope of authority and consistent with company and corporate objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices. Ensure optimum performance of the function.  Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.
